Meat Canning - March 24, 25, 26
Once again the DUMC congregation has an opportunity to help can meat for distribution to the hungry both worldwide and locally at Bucks County food pantries and shelters. This is a wonderful teamwork opportunity!
The Mennonite Central Committee has a trailer truck with canning equipment that travels to 33 sites in the eastern U.S. and Canada each year. The MCC has been canning and distributing meat to the hungry for 66 seasons and every year they process over one million pounds of meat which is monitored by the USDA to insure sanitary procedures. Last year, 13,775, 28 oz. cans were processed at Souderton. This year, the “canner” will arrive at the Mennonite Materials Processing Center in late March.
For the past two years we have provided donations and volunteers to this project. Our efforts, with the additional financial support of the Bucks County Opportunity Council, have provided 1000 cans of meat for Bucks County food pantries.
Please join in supporting this valuable outreach with your service and/or donations.
Volunteer sign-up sheets are located in the narthex. On March 24, 25, and 26, volunteers are needed for each of the two shifts per day (11:00 am - 3:00 and 3:00 - 7:00 pm) to help with the canning process at the MCC Material Resource Center in Souderton, PA.
Donations can be made to DUMC by check --- indicating “yes we can” in the memo line. Our goal is to raise $2700 which will cover the cost of 1,000 cans for local pantries. Thank you for your prayers and support!
