Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer Shawls will be blessed on the altar as they are made and donated. What is a Prayer Shawl? A prayer shawl is a knitted or crocheted shawl that is prayed over while being made. They are also blessed by clergy and given to someone in need as a blessing and reminder that they are loved and prayed for.
How can I be a part of this ministry?
· Knitting or crocheting shawls. Pins and Needles meets on Thursday evenings from 6:00-8:00pm and on Friday from 9:30-11:30am in Room 2 to work on Prayer Shawls or other hand-craft projects. You are welcome to join us!  We will even coach you on knitting or crocheting.
· Making shawls at home and donating them to us.
· Donating washable yarn, gift cards to Michaels, or cash for us to buy yarn.
Patterns will be available on the Information Center in the church lobby or you can go to www.shawlministry.com for free patterns and information.
If you know someone to receive a shawl, please contact Roz Stevens at  267-980-7046 or rozstevens@comcast.net

An interesting outcropping of the prayer shawl ministry is a scarf ministry for kids in Armenia. One day at church, we received a piece of mail for a pastor none of us had ever heard of. A little internet research revealed that he is from DUMC in Ohio! Roz communicated with him via email, and learned about the wonderful ministry his church does in memory of his daughter Carrie, who was a Peace Corp volunteer in Armenia. He established the “Coats for Carrie’s Kids” outreach in her memory, and was delighted with our offer of handmade scarves to complement the coats.
